Flick’s Last-Minute Atlanta Falcons Mock Draft: Unveiling Why Dallas Turner is the Ideal First-Round Pick

As Roger Goodell steps onto the stage amidst a chorus of boos, ready to announce the draft pick, Atlanta Falcons head coach Raheem Morris will be on the brink of adding a valuable new asset to his team.

Atlanta Falcons Mock Draft: Jared Turner, Dallas Turner, Laiatu Latu

Atlanta is positioned with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, marking the third consecutive year they’ve chosen at this spot. However, the Falcons also possess seven additional picks following this, with three especially pivotal selections slated for Day 2.

Turner has long been considered the frontrunner for this selection, making it challenging to deviate from him as the preferred choice come decision day.

Under the leadership of general manager Terry Fontenot, the Falcons have consistently prioritized youth and athleticism with their No. 8 overall picks. Turner fits the bill perfectly, being just 21 years old and showcasing remarkable athleticism at the NFL Combine with a 4.46 40-yard dash and a 40.5″ vertical leap, both ranking highest among edge rushers at the event.

Additionally, Turner holds the title of reigning SEC Defensive Player of the Year (as per coaches) and is a consensus All-American. He also tied for the conference lead with 10 sacks.

The Falcons are eager to secure victories in the immediate future, confident in the strength of their current roster. Turner’s combination of exceptional athleticism, proven track record of production, and clean medical history aligns seamlessly with Atlanta’s objectives, making him an ideal fit for the team.

While UCLA outside linebacker Laiatu Latu, Texas defensive tackle Byron Murphy II, and Toledo cornerback Quinyon Mitchell were seriously considered, Turner ultimately emerges as the top choice, possibly even in a scenario involving trading down.

The Falcons held formal meetings with Lassiter at the NFL Combine, and his ability to excel in various zone concepts and press-man coverage is likely to resonate with both Morris and defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake.
